Are you tired of seeing all of the highlight reels that are posted on social media? If you’re like me, you’re sitting in your house with piles of laundry, papers, and chores surrounding you. Then you click on Facebook and see how everyone seems to be nailing it. ALL. Day. Long. Well, this blog is where the truth comes out! I will be sharing the honest truth (successes and failures) of our family trying to get our home in tip top shape!
Not a Natural
Most people blogging about organization seem to say they love to organize. It just comes natural. Well…I’m a little different. I always struggle with organizing techniques and have tried many times to get things going smoothly. I’ve invested in a few too many self-help books that just didn’t work for me. Why?? Why can I not seem to get it together? I have asked my organized friends (organizational gurus, some might say) for insight. They make it sound sooo easy. Go through your stuff…get rid of some…put the other things where it belongs. That always leaves me wondering…where does it all belong?
She can be taught!
I’m also a teacher. I teach elementary students all sorts of things…reading is my area of expertise, but that doesn’t nearly cover it all. I’m a lifelong learner including being self-taught in so many crafting areas that I truly am the jack of all trades, master of some! If I can teach kiddos to read and myself to crochet, decorate cookies, sew, and more, then what is stopping me from teaching myself to be more organized?
It’s a right-brainer
The answer is somewhere in the fact that I am trying really hard to get systems that were made for logical left-brainers to work for my right-brained self. As I was reflecting on my problems with organization, it finally occurred to me that I am an easy-going, creative soul that just doesn’t understand how to implement a method to the madness naturally.
After recently adding a fourth kiddo to our family, I really NEED to get on top of things here. I feel like I’m drowning in stuff…(seriously, just sent that text to my friend the other day!) The time that I lose looking for lost, misplaced things would probably shock the socks off most linear thinkers. But if you are reading this, and you completely understand what I’ve described then I think we will make great friends and collaborators. Let’s help each other, and keep ourselves accountable in changing the way we live.
I am in search of creative solutions to the problems engulfing every room in my house…not to mention every seat in my car! I will be doing research and trying out everything that has merit. Join me on this journey as I discover how to organize with a creative mind. Leave any of your own successes (or flops) in the comments!
Thanks for checking out Real Life Reels! I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to getting to know each other…for real!
